May mercy and compassion be poured forth upon us
in this world and the next.
O Lord, our God, to you be glory forever. Amen.
OPENING PRAYER
Lord God,
on this morning of the feast of your marvelous transfiguration, grant us to glorify you.
Pour out your light on the entire world,
as the sun rises.
Today we shall celebrate you with joy and gladness,
illuminated by the rays which come from the mountain,
and we shall glorify you,
now and forever. Amen.
GREETING
Peace be with the Church and her children.
PRAISE OF THE ANGELS
Glory to God in the highest,
peace on earth and good will to all.

Praise the Lord, all you nations,
glorify him, all you peoples!

For steadfast is his mercy toward us,
and the truth of the Lord endures forever.
Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit, now and forever,
and peace on earth and good will to all.

PSALMODY
FIRST PRAYER
Lord, have mercy on us and save us.
O Lord,
you allowed your divine glory to be seen by your apostles
to show them the great mystery of your divinity.
This morning, accept the praise of our lips and spirit;
enlighten us with your light
and we shall praise you,
now and forever. Amen.
PSALM OF THE DAY
Antiphon:
From Zion, God shines forth.

Psalm 50
God the Lord has spoken and summoned the earth,
from the rising of the sun to its setting.

From Zion, perfect in beauty,
God shines forth.

May our God come and not be deaf to us!
Before him is a devouring fire;
around him is a raging storm.

He summons the heavens from above,
and the earth, to the trail of his people:

“Gather my faithful ones before me,
those who have made a covenant with me by sacrifice.”

And the heavens proclaim his justice;
for God himself is the judge.

“Hear, my people, and I will speak;
Israel, I will testify against you;
God, your God, am I.

Not for your sacrifices do I rebuke you,
for your holocausts are before me always.

I take from your house no bullock,
no goats out of your fold.

For mine are all the animals of the forests,
beasts by the thousand on my mountains.

I know all the birds of the air,
and whatever stirs in the plains, belongs to me.

If I were hungry, I should not tell you,
for mine are the world and its fullness.

Do I eat the flesh of strong bulls,
or is the blood of goats my drink?

Offer to God praise as your sacrifice
and fulfill your vows to the Most High;

Then call upon me in time of distress;
I will rescue you, and you shall glorify me.”

But to the wicked man God says:
“Why do you recite my statutes,
and profess my covenant with your mouth,

Though you hate discipline
and cast my words behind you?

When you see a thief, you keep pace with him,
and with adulterers you throw in your lot.

To your mouth you give free rein for evil,
you harness your tongue to deceit.

You sit speaking against your brother;
against your mother’s son you spread rumors.

When you do these things, shall I be deaf to it?
Or do you think that I am like yourself?
I will correct you by drawing them up before your eyes.

“Consider this, you who forget God,
lest I rend you and there be no one to rescue you.

He that offers praise as a sacrifice glorifies me;
and to him that goes the right way I will show
the salvation of God.”

Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit,
now and forever. Amen.

Antiphon:
From Zion, God shines forth.

SECOND PRAYER
Lord, have mercy on us and save us.
O Christ our God,
true Light that has come into the world,
you have transfigured yourself in splendor and light
to remove us from the darkness and stench of sin.
May your light shine upon us
so that with joy we may await your coming,
carrying lighted lamps and singing:
to you, our Light, be glory,
now and forever. Amen.
NUHRO
The Light of the just and joy of the upright is Christ Jesus
our Lord.
Begotten of the Father, he manifested himself to us.
He came to rescue us from darkness and to fill us with the radiance of his light.

Day is dawning upon us; the power of darkness is fading away, From the true Light there arises for us the Light which illumines our darkened eyes.

His glory shines upon the world and enlightens the very depths of the abyss.
Death is annihilated, night has vanished, and the gates of Sheol are broken.
Creatures lying in darkness from ancient times are clothed in light.
The dead arise from the dust and sing because they have a Savior.

He brings salvation and grants us life.
He ascends to his Father on high.
He will return in glorious splendor and shed his light
on those gazing upon him.

Our King comes in majestic glory.
Let us light our lamps and go forth to meet him.
Let us find our joy in him, for he has found joy in us.
He will indeed rejoice us with his marvelous light.

Let us glorify the majesty of the Son and give thanks to
the almighty Father, who,
in an outpouring of love, sent him to us, to fill us with hope and salvation.

When he manifests himself, the saints awaiting him
in weariness and sorrow,
will go forth to meet him with lighted lamps.

The angels and guardians of heaven will rejoice in the glory
of the just and upright people of earth;
together, crowned with victory, they will sing hymns and psalms.

Stand up then and be ready!
Give thanks to our King and Savior, who will come in great glory to gladden us with his marvelous light in his kingdom.

Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit, now and forever. Amen.
Alleluia.

THIRD PRAYER
Lord, have mercy on us and save us.
O Christ,
your light has shone upon the world,
and you have given us a foretaste of the kingdom.
May we praise you this morning with the angels and saints,
with the prophets and apostles, saying:
to you be glory, forever. Amen.
MORNING PSALMS
Psalm 148
Alleluia.

Praise the Lord from the heavens,
praise him in the heights;

Praise him, all you his angels,
praise him, all you his hosts.

Praise him, sun and moon;
praise him, all you shining stars.

Praise him, you highest heavens,
and you waters above the heavens.

Let them praise the name of the Lord,
for he commanded and they were created;

He established them forever and ever;
he gave them a duty which shall not pass away.

Praise the Lord from the earth,
you sea monsters and all depths;

Fire and hail, snow and mist,
storm winds that fulfill his word;

You mountains and all you hills,
you fruit trees and all you cedars;

You wild beasts and all tame animals,
you creeping things and you winged fowl.

Let the kings of the earth and all peoples,
the princes and all the judges of the earth,

Young men too, and maidens,
old men and boys,

Praise the name of the Lord,
for his name alone is exalted;

His majesty is above earth and heaven,
and he has lifted up the horn of his people.

Be this his praise from all his faithful ones,
from the children of Israel, the people close to him.
Alleluia.
Psalm 149:1-6
Alleluia.
Sing to the Lord
a new song of praise in the assembly of the faithful.

Let Israel be glad in their maker,
let the children of Zion rejoice in their king.

Let them praise his name in the festive dance,
let them sing praise to him with timbrel and harp.

For the Lord loves his people,
and he adorns the lowly with victory.

Let the faithful exult in glory;
let them sing joy upon their couches;

Let the high praises of God
be in their throats.
Alleluia.
Psalm 150
Alleluia.
Praise the Lord in his sanctuary,
praise him in the firmament of his strength.

Praise him for his mighty deeds,
praise him for his sovereign majesty.

Praise him with the blast of the trumpet,
praise him with lyre and harp.

Praise him with timbrel and dance,
praise him with strings and pipe.

Praise him with sounding cymbals,
praise him with clanging cymbals.

Let everything that has breath
praise the Lord!
Alleluia.
Psalm 117
Praise the Lord, all you nations;
glorify him, all you peoples!

For steadfast is his mercy toward us,
and the truth of the Lord endures forever.

Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit, now and forever. Amen.
Alleluia.

HOOSOYO
PROEMION
Praise, glory and honor to the Light, the eternal One,
from whom proceeds the eternal Light;
to the beloved Son, who transfigured himself today
on the top of the mountain
and has strengthened the faith of his disciples in him;
to the Spirit, bearer of life, who is adored with the Father
and the Son.
To the Good One is due glory and honor this morning,
and all the days of our lives,
now and forever. Amen.
SEDRO
Glory to you, O Christ our God,
you took upon yourself the condition of a servant
to raise the servant to yourself,
you who are one in nature and substance with the Father
and the Holy Spirit.
The angels and saints adore and praise you day and night.
In your love for us you desired to live among us,
that we might hear your Father’s voice and be drawn to him.
You who were born among us and grew as one of us
have shown us your love and goodness,
taught us the way of salvation and shown us your signs
and wonders.
Before revealing your glory on the heights of Golgotha,
your revealed it on Mount Tabor.
You gave men a taste of the happiness of heavenly life,
let them hear the voice of the Father,
and showed them the splendor of his glory.
O Lord,
we thank you for your love and we raise our eyes to you, saying:

“Show us, O Lord, your mercy, and grant us your salvation.”
Grant that one day we may hear your voice
and partake of the happiness of your paradise.
May this feast be a manifestation of your splendor
on the Church and the world,
and may all see your way and be touched by your light.
May your mercy reach out to all flesh,
for your mercy is without limit.
We shall glorify you,
now and forever. Amen.
QOLO
Blessed be the Father, who has loved us and given us his only Son.
Blessed be the Son, who has loved us and revealed himself in the flesh.
Blessed be the Spirit, through whom we know the son and who
makes us say: “Abba”—Father.
O Church, rejoice and sing: Glory to the Trinity, who calls us to the kingdom and eternal happiness.
ETRO
O Lord,
strengthen us by your will,
that we may accomplish the good works of the kingdom of God.
May we always contemplate your divine mysteries
and be dwelling places for your divinity,
now and forever. Amen.
READINGS
MAZMOORO
The Lord revealed himself to us and we have seen his glory;
his light has shone upon us.
May we proclaim from the top of the mountain: The Lord has
revealed himself; let us glorify him who was resplendent for us.

O God, you accepted the prayers of our ancestors, accept our
prayers and have mercy on us.
SCRIPTURE READINGS
A Reading from the Book of Nehemiah
Nehemiah 8: 13-18
On the second day, the family heads of the whole people and also the priests and the Levites gathered around Ezra the scribe and examined the words of the law more closely. They found it written in the law prescribed by the LORD through Moses that the Israelites must dwell in booths during the feast of the seventh month; and that they should have this proclamation made throughout their cities and in Jerusalem: “Go out into the hill country and bring in branches of olive trees, oleasters, myrtle, palm, and other leafy trees, to make booths, as the law prescribes.”
The people went out and brought in branches with which they made booths for themselves, on the roof of their houses, in their courtyards, in the courts of the house of God, and in the open spaces of the Water Gate and the Gate of Ephraim. Thus the entire assembly of the returned exiles made booths and dwelt in them. Now the Israelites had done nothing of this sort from the days of Jeshua, son of Nun, until this occasion; therefore there was very great joy. Ezra read from the book of the law of God day after day, from the first day to the last. They kept the feast for seven days, and the solemn assembly on the eighth day, as was required.
A Reading from the Second Letter to the Corinthians
2 Corinthians 3: 4-18
Such confidence we have through Christ toward God. Not that of ourselves we are qualified to take credit for anything as coming from us; rather, our qualification comes from God, who has indeed qualified us as ministers of a new covenant, not of letter but of spirit; for the letter brings death, but the Spirit gives life. Now if the ministry of death, carved in letters on stone, was so glorious that the Israelites could not look intently at the face of Moses because of its glory that was going to fade, how much more will the ministry of the Spirit be glorious? For if the ministry of condemnation was glorious, the ministry of righteousness will abound much more in glory. Indeed, what was endowed with glory has come to have no glory in this respect because of the glory that surpasses it. For if what was going to fade was glorious, how much more will what endures be glorious. Therefore, since we have such hope, we act very boldly and not like Moses, who put a veil over his face so that the Israelites could not look intently at the cessation of what was fading. Rather, their thoughts were rendered dull, for to this present day the same veil remains unlifted when they read the old covenant, because

through Christ it is taken away.
To this day, in fact, whenever Moses is read, a veil lies over their hearts, but whenever a person turns to the Lord the veil is removed. Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. All of us, gazing with unveiled face on the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, as from the Lord who is the Spirit.
