PENTECOST Safro

INTRODUCTION
DOXOLOGY
Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit, as we begin and until we conclude.
May mercy and compassion be poured forth upon us
in this world and the next.
O Lord, our God, to you be glory forever. Amen
OPENING PRAYER
Lord God,
grant that this morning, on the feast of Pentecost,
our hearts may be holy and our lips pure,
so that we may praise you with the angels and apostles in heaven and with all the children of the baptism of forgiveness on earth.
Then your blessing and grace will come upon us,
now and all the days of our lives, and forever. Amen.
GREETING
Peace be with the Church and her children.
PRAISE OF THE ANGELS
Glory to God in the highest,
and peace on earth and good will to all.

Praise the Lord all you nations,
glorify him all you peoples!

For steadfast is his mercy toward us,
and the truth of the Lord endures forever
.
Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit, now and forever,
and peace on earth and good will to all.

PSALMODY
FIRST PRAYER
Lord, have mercy on us and save us.
O God,
enlighten our understanding with the rays of your Holy Spirit, and awaken our souls from the sleep of selfishness.
May your rich gifts come upon us this morning,
as they came upon the apostles in the upper room of Sion;
we shall be strengthened by them and give witness to you today, and all the days of our lives, forever. Amen.
PSALM OF THE DAY
Antiphon:
When you send forth your spirit, they are created, and you
renew the face of the earth.

Psalm 104: 24-35
How manifold are your works, O Lord!
In wisdom you have wrought them all—
the earth is full of your creatures;

The sea also, great and wide,
in which are schools without number
of living things both small and great.

And where ships move about with Leviathan,
which you formed to make sport of it.

They all look to you
to give them food in due time.

When you give it to them, they gather it;
when you open your hand, they are filled
with good things.

If you hide your face, they are dismayed;
if you take away their breath, they perish
and return to their dust.

When you send forth your spirit, they are created,
and you renew the face of the earth.

May the glory of the Lord endure forever;
may the Lord be glad in his works!

He who looks upon the earth, and it trembles;
who touches the mountains, and they smoke!

I will sing to the Lord all my life.
I will sing praise to my God while I live.

Pleasing to him be my theme;
I will be glad in the Lord.

May sinners cease from the earth,
and may the wicked be no more.

Bless the Lord, O my soul!
Alleluia

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit,
now and forever. Amen.

Antiphon:
When you send forth your spirit, they are created, and you
renew the face of the earth.

SECOND PRAYER
Lord, have mercy on us and save us.
O Holy Spirit,
giver of all gifts,
you enlighten our spirits and fill our hearts.
You enlightened the spirits of the prophets,
through you the apostles spoke, martyrs engaged in combat,
and saints received perfection.
Today the holy Church, the bride of Christ and daughter of the Father, whom you have sanctified,
glorifies you, the Father and the Son, now and forever. Amen.
NUHRO (LIGHT OF HYMN)
The Light of the just and joy of the upright is Christ Jesus our Lord.
Begotten of the Father, he manifested himself to us.
He came to rescue us from darkness and to fill us with the radiance of his light.

Day is dawning upon us; the power of darkness is fading away, From the true Light there arises for us the Light which illumines our darkened eyes.

His glory shines upon the world and enlightens the very depths of the abyss.
Death is annihilated, night has vanished, and the gates of Sheol are broken.
Creatures lying in darkness from ancient times are clothed in light.
The dead arise from the dust and sing because they have a Savior.

He brings salvation and grants us life.
He ascends to his Father on high.
He will return in glorious splendor and shed his light
on those gazing upon him.

Our King comes in majestic glory.
Let us light our lamps and go forth to meet him.
Let us find our joy in him, for he has found joy in us.
He will indeed rejoice us with his marvelous light.

Let us glorify the majesty of the Son and give thanks to
the almighty Father, who
in an outpouring of love, sent him to us, to fill us with hope and salvation.

When he manifests himself, the saints awaiting him in
weariness and sorrow,
will go forth to meet him with lighted lamps.

The angels and guardians of heaven will rejoice in the glory of the just and upright people of earth;
together, crowned with victory, they will sing hymns and psalms.

Stand up then and be ready!
Give thanks to our King and Savior, who will come in great glory to gladden us with his marvelous light in his kingdom.

Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit, now and forever. Amen.
Alleluia.

[HYMN]
Either the Hymn, “The Return of Christ” or the Hymn, “Christ the
Light” may be sung after the Nuhro.
THIRD PRAYER
Lord, have mercy on us and save us.
O Lord,
may we drink of this wine which you gave to your apostles
in the upper room on the day of Pentecost.
Then we shall be inebriated with your love,
you will strengthen us, and our souls and lips will be
sanctified by your spiritual fire.
We shall praise you and give glory and thanksgiving to the adorable, glorious and consubstantial Trinity.,
Father, Son and Holy Spirit,
now and forever. Amen.
MORNING PSALMS
Psalm 148
Alleluia.
Praise the Lord from the heavens,
praise him in the heights;

Praise him, all you his angels,
praise him, all you his hosts.

Praise him, sun and moon;
praise him, all you shining stars.

Praise him, you highest heavens,
and you waters above the heavens.

Let them praise the name of the Lord,
for he commanded and they were created;

He established them forever and ever;
he gave them a duty which shall not pass away.

Praise the Lord from the earth,
you sea monsters and all depths;

Fire and hail, snow and mist,
storm winds that fulfill his word;

You mountains and all you hills,
you fruit trees and all you cedars;

You wild beasts and all tame animals,
you creeping things and you winged fowl.

Let the kings of the earth and all peoples,
the princes and all the judges of the earth,

Young men too, and maidens,
old men and boys,

Praise the name of the Lord,
for his name alone is exalted;

His majesty is above earth and heaven,
and he has lifted up the horn of his people.

Be this his praise from all his faithful ones,
from the children of Israel, the people close to him.
Alleluia.
Psalm 149:1-6
Alleluia.
Sing to the Lord
a new song of praise in the assembly of the faithful.

Let Israel be glad in their maker,
let the children of Zion rejoice in their king.

Let them praise his name in the festive dance,
let them sing praise to him with timbrel and harp.

For the Lord loves his people,
and he adorns the lowly with victory.

Let the faithful exult in glory;
let them sing joy upon their couches;

Let the high praises of God
be in their throats.
Alleluia.
Psalm 150
Alleluia.
Praise the Lord in his sanctuary,
praise him in the firmament of his strength.

Praise him for his mighty deeds,
praise him for his sovereign majesty.

Praise him with the blast of the trumpet,
praise him with lyre and harp.

Praise him with timbrel and dance,
praise him with strings and pipe.

Praise him with sounding cymbals,
praise him with clanging cymbals.

Let everything that has breath
praise the Lord!
Alleluia.
Psalm 117
Praise the Lord, all you nations;
glorify him, all you peoples!

For steadfast is his mercy toward us,
and the truth of the Lord endures forever
.
Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit, now and forever. Amen.

Alleluia.
[CANTICLE]
The “Canticle of the Three Children” may follow the Morning Psalms.
HOOSOYO
PROEMION
Praise, glory and honor to the only and hidden Father,
to the Son, who is the Savior of all and whom we see and adore, to the Holy Spirit, who gives us life, has spoken through
the prophets and apostles,
and came upon the disciples in the upper room at Jerusalem.
To the Good One is due glory and honor this morning
and all the days of our lives,

now and forever. Amen.
SEDRO
Christ our God,
when you gloriously ascended to your heavenly Father,
you raised your pure hands and poured out your blessings
upon your holy apostles, saying:
“Wait for that which the Father has promised and do not leave Jerusalem.”
On the day of Pentecost, when they were all gathered in one place, there was a sudden sound that came from heaven;
the Spirit fulled hem with his astonishing gifts!
These simple men spoke the languages of the learned;
these fishermen began to teach the educated.
They then began to perform miracles and traveled throughout
the world,
preaching to the poor about the Son of God who died,
rose from the dead and gave us salvation.
Their light spreads throughout the universe,
the Spirit opens their mouths an they become fishers of men.
They do not fear the governors, nor do they dread death.
In all places they proclaim:
“God has truly manifested himself to men,
and we have seen his glory.”
Their zeal made them seem as people drunk with wine,
while it was the love of God which had been poured into their hearts,
in the upper room on the day of Pentecost in Jerusalem.
And now, Christ our God,
we beg you always to adorn us with your Holy Spirit and
marvelous gifts.
Confirm us in the Catholic faith
and in the universal and apostolic Church,
headed by the holy Roman Pontiff,
tended by the priests, and served by the deacons.
Lord, be a rampart of protection for your Church against all human egotism and vain glory.
Sanctify her shepherds and purify her children,
then all will truly serve you without being interrupted by
human bias or worldly considerations.
O Lord, may your light shine on all hearts
thanks to those who have been clothed by you in the waters
of baptism,
and have received you at the holy altar.

Enkindle in us the apostolic zeal to carry your love to all,
that they may know that they are brothers and sisters
and glorify the Father of heaven.
On this blessed day, grant us to receive the grace of the
consoling Spirit, the bearer of life,
who is one in being with you and the Father,
to whom is due glory and honor,
now and forever. Amen.
QOLO
Holy are you, O God, you have taken a body and have given us life.
Holy are you, O Strong One, you strengthen your apostles
throughout the world by the Holy Spirit.
Holy are you, O Immortal One, you died and have given us life; you made your apostles preachers throughout the world.
You were crucified for us, O Christ, and have saved us by your cross; today you send us the Consoler, and your disciples received him with great joy. Full of courage, they go throughout the world to announce the Father, and the Son and the Holy Spirit.
ETRO
O Lord God,
receive these prayers
which we offer on the feast of the descent of the Comforter on the apostles.
Purify us from our sins,
cleanse our blemishes,
and we shall praise the three Persons who have saved us
and given us life.
We shall adore the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit,
one power in one nature and dominion.
To God be glory,
now and forever. Amen.
READINGS
MAZMOORO
On this day the Holy Spirit descended to the upper room;
the apostles received him and he speaks through them.

Their good news spreads throughout the whole world,
thanks to the Spirit they received in the upper room.
The words of the apostles, spoken under his inspiration,
resound in the world.
Children of the Church, bend your heads today, as did the apostles, and adore the Spirit who has purified us from error by his decent.
SCRIPTURE READINGS
A Reading from the Prophet Amos
Amos 3: 1-15
Hear this word, O men of Israel, that the LORD pronounces over you, over the whole family that I brought up from the land of Egypt: You alone have I favored, more than all the families of the earth; Therefore I will punish you for all your crimes. Do two walk together unless they have agreed?

Does a lion roar in the forest when it has no prey? Does a young lion cry out from its den unless it has seized something? Is a bird brought to earth by a snare when there is no lure for it? Does a snare spring up from the ground without catching anything? If the trumpet sounds in a city, will the people not be frightened? If evil befalls a city, has not the LORD caused it? Indeed, the Lord GOD does nothing without revealing his plan to his servants, the prophets. The lion roars — who will not be afraid! The Lord GOD
speaks — who will not prophesy! Proclaim this in the castles of Ashdod, in the castles of the land of Egypt: “Gather about the mountain of Samaria, and see the great disorders within her, the oppression in her midst.” For they know not how to do what is right, says the LORD, Storing up in their castles what they have extorted and robbed. Therefore, thus says the Lord GOD: An enemy shall surround the land, and strip you of your strength, and pillage your castles, Thus says the LORD: As the shepherd snatches from the mouth of the lion a pair of legs or the tip of an ear of his sheep, So the Israelites who dwell in Samaria shall escape with the corner of a couch or a piece of a cot. Hear and bear witness against the house of Jacob, says the Lord GOD, the God of hosts: On the day when I punish Israel for his crimes, I will visit also the altars of Bethel: The horns of the altar shall be broken off and fall to the ground.

Then will I strike the winter house and the summer house; The ivory apartments shall be ruined, and their many rooms shall be no more, says the LORD.
