Friday Evening The Healing of the Paralytic

SATURDAY Ramsho
INTRODUCTION

DOXOLOGY

Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit, as we begin and until we conclude.
May mercy and compassion be poured forth upon us
in this world and the next.
O Lord, our God, to you be glory for ever. Amen.

OPENING PRAYER
Lord God,
open our mouths to praise you and guide us in the right path that leads to you.
Then we shall spend this holy Lent in joy and gladness, reach the glorious resurrection,
and give praise and glory to you,
your Father and Holy Spirit,
now and for ever. Amen.

GREETING
Peace be with the Church and her children.
PRAISE OF THE ANGELS

Glory to God in the highest,
and peace on earth and good will to all.

Praise the Lord all you nations,
glorify him all you peoples!

For steadfast is his mercy towards us,
and the truth of the Lord endures for ever.

Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit, now and for ever.
and peace on earth and good will to all.

PSALMODY
FIRST PRAYER
Lord, have mercy on us and save us.
O Lover of all,
accept our fasting.
Hear our prayer,
and our souls will be sanctified by you
and we shall do your will with joy.
You are our hope and joy;
to you be adoration and praise,
now and for ever. Amen.

PSALM 51
Psalm 51: 3-19
Have mercy on me, O God, in your goodness;
in the greatness of your compassion
wipe out my offense.

Thoroughly wash me from my guilt
and of my sin cleanse me.

For I acknowledge my offense,
and my sin is before me always:

“Against you only have I sinned,
and done what is evil in your sight”

That you may be justified in your sentence,
vindicated when you condemn.

Indeed, in guilt was I born,
and in sin my mother conceived me;

Behold, you are pleased with sincerity of heart,
and in my inmost being you teach me wisdom.

Cleanse me of sin with hyssop, that I may be purified;
wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.

Let me hear the sounds of joy and gladness;
the bones you have crushed shall rejoice.

Turn away your face from my sins,
and blot out all my guilt.

A clean heart create for me, O God,
and a steadfast spirit renew within me.

Cast me not out from your presence,
and your holy spirit take not from me.

Give me back the joy of your salvation,
and a willing spirit sustain in me.

I will teach transgressors your ways,
and sinners shall return to you.

Free me from blood guilt, O God, my saving God;
then my tongue shall revel in your justice.

O LORD, open my lips,
and my mouth shall proclaim your praise.

For you are not pleased with sacrifices;
should I offer a holocaust, you would not
accept it.

My sacrifice, O God, is a contrite spirit;
a heart contrite and humbled, O God,
you will not spurn.
To you returns the praise, O God.

PSALM OF THE DAY
PSALM OF THE DAY
Antiphon:
Once I said, “O LORD, have pity on me;
heal me, though I have sinned against you.”

Psalm 41
Happy is he who has regard for the lowly and the poor; in the day of misfortune the Lord will deliver him.

The Lord will keep and preserve him;
he will make him happy on the earth,
and not give him over to the will of his enemies.

The Lord will help him on his sickbed,
he will take away all his ailment when he is ill.

Once I said, “O Lord, have pity on me;
heal me, though I have sinned against you.

My enemies say the worst of me:
‘When will he die and his name perish?’

When one comes to see me, he speaks without sincerity; his heart stores up malice; when he leaves he give voice to it outside.

All my foes whisper together against me;
against me they imagine the worst:

‘A malignant disease fills his frame’;
and ‘Now that he lies ill, he will not rise again,’

Even my friend who had my trust
and partook of my bread, has raised
his heel against me.

But you, O Lord, have pity on me, and raise me up,
that I may repay them.”

That you love me I know by this,
that my enemy does not triumph over me,

But because of my integrity you sustain me,
and let me stand before you forever.

Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel,
from all eternity and forever. Amen.
Amen.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, now and for ever. Amen.

Antiphon:
Once I said, “O LORD, have pity on me;
heal me, though I have sinned against you.”

SECOND PRAYER
Lord, have mercy on us and save us.
Glory to you, Word of God,
you became man for us,

sanctified our desires and caused your Spirit to reign over us.
On this evening, receive our prayer and sanctify our Lent that we may live for you, and come to meet you in your kingdom, where we shall glorify you with the saints, for ever. Amen.

EVENING PSALMS
Psalm 141: 1-4
O LORD, to you I call; hasten to me;
hearken to my voice when I call upon you;

Let my prayer come like incense before you;
the lifting up of my hands, like the evening sacrifice.

O LORD, set a watch before my mouth,
a guard at the door of my lips.

Let not my heart incline to the evil
of engaging in deeds of wickedness

With men who are evildoers;
and let me not partake of their dainties.

Psalm 142
With a loud voice I cry out to the LORD;
with a loud voice I beseech the LORD.

My complaint I pour out before him;
before him I lay bare my distress.

When my spirit is faint within me,
you know my path.

In the way along which I walk
they have hid a trap for me.

I look to the right to see,
but there is no one who pays me heed.

I have lost all means of escape;
there is no one who cares for my life.

I cry out to you, O LORD:
I say, “You are my refuge, my portion in the land
of the living.”

Attend to my cry,
for I am brought low indeed.

Rescue me from my persecutors,
for they are too strong for me.

Lead me forth from prison,
that I may give thanks to your name.

The just shall gather around me
when you have been good to me.

Psalm 119: 105-112
A lamp to my feet is your word,
a light to my path.

I resolve and swear
to keep your just ordinances.

I am very much afflicted;
O LORD, give me life according to your word.

Accept, O LORD, the free homage of my mouth,
and teach me your decrees.

Though constantly I take my life in my hands,
yet I forget not your law.

The wicked have laid a snare for me,
but from your precepts I have not strayed.

Your decrees are my inheritance forever;
the joy of my heart they are.

I intend in my heart to fulfill your statutes
always to the letter.

Psalm 117

Praise the LORD, all you nations;
glorify him, all you peoples!

For steadfast is his mercy towards us,
and the truth of the Lord endures for ever.

Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit, now and for ever. Amen.

[SOOGHITO/HYMN]
O Lord, we have battled in your arena to the point of exhaustion.
We have borne the day of combat and the heat of ordeal.
In the service of your covenant, we have kept watch
during the night, confident in the fulfillment of your promise, We have made use of our talents with no concern for the pain.
On the Day of reckoning, when all will be laid before your throne of judgment, in your kindness, do not forget
what we have endured.
We belong to the Church, to which you have entrusted the treasure of hope;
Do not shame us as lazy servants or strangers,
but open your door for us that we may enter into the
dwelling of your chosen ones.

HOOSOYO
PROEMION
Praise, glory and honor to the Father who sent his Son for our salvation;
to the Son who justified us by his fasting and life;
to the Spirit who strengthens us in our fight.
To the Good One is due glory and honor this evening
and all the days of our lives,
now and for ever. Amen.

SEDRO
Glory and honor to you, only Son and Word of God,
Light from Light and ray of the eternal Father;
you humbled yourself in order to bring us into
your kingdom;
you lived as one of us in order to return to us our
lost freedom.
For our sake, you endured fasting, fatigue and suffering of soul and body,
teaching us the way to happiness,
the way of Golgotha that leads to death and resurrection.
You taught us also that the grain of wheat which falls on the ground and does not die, remains just a grain of wheat.
And so, we praise and thank you saying:
Glory to you, O Christ, you have given our souls healing and consolation.
Glory to you, brilliant Light and Beacon that guides us, for you led our souls to goodness and confidence.
Glory to you, who provides for the needs of the universe and satisfies the hungry with your living bread.
Glory to you, All-Powerful and Most High,
in your generosity you help the whole world.
Glory to you, our only hope,
by your fasting you make the light of your grace shine on us and adorn us with the true garment of repentance.

Glory to you, O Lover of all, O merciful One,
you pour your mercy upon those who beseech you during this blessed Lent.
Now we ask you, O Christ, our God,
hear us and give us that peace which comes only from you.
Fill our hearts with joy and spiritual gladness,
spread your peace among nations throughout the world.
Sow harmony in families,
expel jealousy and hate from the hearts of the children of God.
Then we shall know that you love us,
and that we must love one another in words and deeds.
Enlighten the spirits of Christians that they may walk according to your gospel,
and, in truth, give witness to you above all.
Finally, may your mercy rest upon us and our departed, and with the just and the saints we shall glorify you, for ever. Amen.

QOLO
Come, brothers and sisters, let us work in this holy Lent to be worthy of being counted among the fathers and saints who have sanctified their fast.

Blessed are the humble, for they will inherit the earth; and blessed is the one who implores God with a broken heart, for the Lord listens to the humble.

ETRO
Lord,
fill the emptiness of our hearts with your love
and our limitations with your perfection.
May our incense (prayers) be a pledge of our fidelity and confidence in you.
Increase our faith, O Lord, and strengthen our abandonment to you and our love for you.
Then we shall sing pure hymns to you and praise you,
your Father and your Holy Spirit,
now and for ever. Amen.

READINGS
MAZMOORO
Pure prayer and sincere love are the signs of a blessed Lent.

Blessed are the meek, for they will possess the earth; blessed are those who hunger and thirst for justice, they will be satisfied.

May God who accepted the fast and prayer of our ancestors, accept our prayer and have mercy on us.

SCRIPTURE READINGS
A Reading from the Book of Genesis
Genesis 41: 1-32
After a lapse of two years, Pharaoh had a dream. He saw himself standing by the Nile, when up out of the Nile came seven cows, handsome and fat; they grazed in the reed grass. Behind them seven other cows, ugly and gaunt, came up out of the Nile; and standing on the bank of the Nile beside the others, the ugly, gaunt cows ate up the seven handsome, fat cows. Then Pharaoh woke up. He fell asleep again and had another dream.
He saw seven ears of grain, fat and healthy, growing on a single stalk. Behind them sprouted seven ears of grain, thin and blasted by the east wind; and the seven thin ears swallowed up the seven fat, healthy ears. Then Pharaoh woke up, to find it was only a dream. Next morning his spirit was agitated. So he summoned all the magicians and sages of Egypt and recounted his dreams to them; but no one could interpret his dreams for him. Then the chief cupbearer spoke up and said to Pharaoh: “On this occasion I am reminded of my negligence. Once, when Pharaoh was angry, he put me and the chief baker in custody in the house of the chief steward. Later, we both had dreams on the same night, and each of our dreams had its own meaning. There with us was a Hebrew youth, a slave of the chief steward; and when we told him our dreams, he interpreted them for us and explained for each of us the meaning of his dream. And it turned out just as he had told us: I was restored to my post, but the other man was impaled.”
Pharaoh therefore had Joseph summoned, and they hurriedly brought him from the dungeon. After he shaved and changed his clothes, he came into Pharaoh’s presence.
Pharaoh then said to him: “I had certain dreams that no one can interpret. But I hear it said of you that the moment you are told a dream you can interpret it.” “It is not I,”
Joseph replied to Pharaoh, “but God who will give Pharaoh the right answer.” Then Pharaoh said to Joseph: “In my dream, I was standing on the bank of the Nile, when up from the Nile came seven cows, fat and well-formed; they grazed in the reed grass.
Behind them came seven other cows, scrawny, most ill-formed and gaunt. Never have I seen such ugly specimens as these in all the land of Egypt! The gaunt, ugly cows ate up the first seven fat cows. But when they had consumed them, no one could tell that they had done so, because they looked as ugly as before. Then I woke up. In another dream I saw seven ears of grain, fat and healthy,

growing on a single stalk. Behind them sprouted seven ears of grain, shriveled and thin and blasted by the east wind; and the seven thin ears swallowed up the seven healthy ears. I have spoken to the magicians, but none of them can give me an explanation.” Joseph said to Pharaoh: “Both of Pharaoh’s dreams have the same meaning. God has thus foretold to Pharaoh what he is about to do. The seven healthy cows are seven years, and the seven healthy ears are seven years — the same in each dream. So also, the seven thin, ugly cows that came up after them are seven years, as are the seven thin, wind-blasted ears; they are seven years of famine. It is just as I told Pharaoh: God has revealed to Pharaoh what he is about to do. Seven years of great abundance are now coming throughout the land of Egypt; but these will be followed by seven years of famine, when all the abundance in the land of Egypt will be forgotten. When the famine has ravaged the land, no trace of the abundance will be found in the land because of the famine that follows it — so utterly severe will that famine be. That Pharaoh had the same dream twice means that the matter has been reaffirmed by God and that God will soon bring it about.

SUPPLICATION
O Son, by your fast you saved the Church from error; hear our supplication and have mercy on us.

You have established peace between heaven and earth, grant peace to your Church and keep her children in the light of the cross.

Let us thank the Lord, the Lord of all; may he open our mouths that we may glorify him. Happy is the one who by his good conduct becomes a pure dwelling for the Father and his only Son. He receives God within him as in a temple.

You who fast, learn to edify yourself by the means of wisdom, contemplation and knowledge; when you become a true
dwelling, God will take his abode there. How valued is fasting by him who probes hearts, when it is joined with humility, the love of God and neighbor.

Be not deceived by the evil one; if you have fasted do not place yourself over your neighbor who has eaten; fear Paul and the reproach he addresses to you; he who does not eat, let him not judge the one who eats. You are not charged to judge, but to imitate the Lord.

May Christ who accepted the fasting of our ancestors, accept our fasting and our prayers and have mercy on us.

Exalt, O Lord, the memory of your Mother and your saints; through their prayers grant pardon to us and our deceased. Through the prayers of your Mother, the prophets, apostles and martyrs, watch over the living, an in your mercy forgive those who have died.

HOOTOMO
Let us confess, adore, and praise the holy and glorious Trinity: Father, Son, + and Holy Spirit.

TRISAGION

Lord, have mercy.
Lord, have mercy.
Lord, have mercy.

Holy are you, O God;
Holy are you, O Strong One;
Holy are you, O Immortal One;
have mercy on us.

Lord, have mercy on us.
Lord, forgive us and have mercy on us.
Lord, hear us and have mercy on us.
Lord, accept our worship and our prayers.
Lord, come to our assistance and have mercy on us.

LORD’S PRAYER
Our Father, who are in heaven,
hallowed be your name;
your kingdom come;
your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread;
and forgive us our trespasses
as we forgive those who trespass against us;
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours,
now and for ever. Amen.

O Lord
the night and the day are yours;
you uphold the light and the sun.
Through your power you direct the sequence of the seasons.
O Lord,
you have brought the day to its close and called forth the night.
Be for us that great Day that never ends.
In the evening let your light shine in our hearts,
and in the darkness of the night,
enlighten us with the knowledge of your truth.
And so, through all the days of our lives,
we shall praise you, Father, Son, Holy Spirit.
Amen.

EXAMINATION OF CONSCIENCE
Let us thank God for all the graces he has bestowed on us this day which has passed in calm and peace.
Let us recall our failings against the commandments of God and the Church in thought, word, deed, or omission.

We ask for God’s pardon as we pray.

“Forgive us, Jesus!”

Lord, have mercy.
Lord, have mercy.
Lord, have mercy.

Glory be to you, O Lord.
Glory be to you, O Lord.
Glory be to you, O Lord.

God,
Father in heaven,
by your living and holy name,
keep us from evil and lead us not into temptation:
for we call upon you, O Lord, our God, our constant hope, glory to you for ever.

O Lord, our Lord,
may our humble worship be pleasing to you;
may our prayers come before you and our actions give
you honor.

Let your mercy, kindness, help, grace and divine love be poured abundantly upon us poor sinners,
both in heaven and on the earth
which you have created in your goodness.
O Lord, our God, to you be glory for ever.
Amen.

DISMISSAL
Peace be with you.
And also with you.

O God,
through the prayers of your Mother and the saints who have believed in you;
through the prayers of the prophets, apostles, martyrs and confessors;
through the prayers of the just, the priests, the holy fathers, the pastors and doctors of true faith;
through the prayers of N., Pope of Rome, N., our Patriarch, and N., our Bishop,
forgive your people and have mercy on your flock.
May God bless, forgive, sanctify, purify, and keep each of the faithful united with us in this spiritual office.
May mercy and compassion be upon us and all the faithful who dwell here.
May peaceful rest be granted to those who have died in the faith.
May the faithful who live here experience the protection of his victorious cross.
May we and all his servants who adore him with bowed head, receive the mercy of the holy and glorious Trinity:
Father, Son, + and Holy Spirit,
to whom be glory now and for ever.
Amen.

May God forgive your sins,
pardon your failings,
and deliver you from the power of the enemy.
May he grant you the remission of your offenses.
Go in peace, and pray to Christ for me.
