INTRODUCTION

DOXOLOGY

Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit,
as we begin and until we conclude.
May mercy and compassion be poured forth upon us
in this world and the next.
O Lord, our God, to you be glory for ever.
Amen.

OPENING PRAYER
Lord,
you appointed Saint Maron as father and shepherd of a
portion of your people.
You supported him with your strength and righteousness,
gave him victory over your enemies and guided him
in your truth.
Grant us who celebrate his memory today a constant faith,
and we will glorify and praise you,
now and for ever.
Amen.

GREETING
Peace be with the Church and her children.

PRAISE OF THE ANGELS
Glory to God in the highest,
and peace on earth and good will to all.

Praise the Lord all you nations,
glorify him all you peoples,

for steadfast is his mercy toward us,
and the truth of the Lord endures for ever.

Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit,
now and for ever.
and peace on earth and good will to all.

PSALMODY
FIRST PRAYER
Lord, have mercy on us and save us.
Blessed are you, the Way, the Truth and the Life,
who taught us that the gate to the kingdom is narrow and
the road to life difficult.
The hermit, Saint Maron, took the difficult way during his life
and entered the kingdom by this narrow gate.
Receive the prayer which we raise to your throne on the day
of his memory.
With him may we endure every difficulty, confront every trial,
and so enter your heavenly paradise to give you glory, for ever.
Amen.

PSALM OF THE DAY
Antiphon:
The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom should I fear?
The Lord is my life’s refuge; of whom should I be afraid?

Psalm 27
The Lord is my light and my salvation;
who should I fear?

The Lord is my life’s refuge;
of whom should I be afraid?

When evildoers come at me
to devour my flesh,

My foes and my enemies
themselves stumble and fall.

Though an army encamp against me,
my heart will not fear;

Though war be waged upon me,
even then will I trust.

One thing I ask of the Lord;
this I seek:

To dwell in the house of the Lord
all the days of my life,

That I may gaze on the loveliness of the Lord
and contemplate his temple.

For he will hide me in his abode
in the day of trouble;

He will conceal me in the shelter of his tent,
he will set me high upon a rock.

Even now my head is held high
above my enemies on every side.

And I will offer in his tent
sacrifices with shouts of gladness;

I will sing and chant
praise to the Lord.

Hear, O Lord, the sound of my call;
have pity on me, and answer me.

Of you my heart speaks; you my glance seeks;
your presence, O Lord, I seek.

Hide not your face from me;
do not in anger repel your servant.

You are my helper: cast me not off;
forsake me not, O God my savior.

Though my father and mother forsake me,
yet will the Lord receive me.

Show me, O Lord, your way,
and lead me on a level path,
because of my adversaries.

Give me not up to the wishes of my foes;
for false witnesses have risen up against me,
and such as breathe out violence.

I believe that I shall see the bounty of the Lord
in the land of the living.

Wait for the Lord with courage;
be stouthearted, and wait for the Lord.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit,
now and for ever. Amen.

Antiphon:
The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom should I fear?
The Lord is my life’s refuge; of whom should I be afraid?

SECOND PRAYER
Lord, have mercy on us and save us.
O God,
pour out your graces on your people
who come today to celebrate the memory of our
father, Saint Maron.
Through his intercession,
may your gifts be given to all the faithful throughout the world
that they may give you praise and glory,
now and for ever.

Amen.

NUHRO (HYMN OF LIGHT)
The Light of the just and joy of the upright in Christ Jesus, our Lord.
Begotten of the Father, he manifested Himself to us.
He came to rescue us from darkness and to fill us with the radiance of his light.

Day is dawning upon us; the power of darkness is fading away.
From the true Light there arises for us the light which illumines our darkened eyes.

His glory shines upon the world and enlightens the very depths of the abyss.
Death is annihilated, night has vanished, and the gates of Sheol are broken.

Creatures lying in darkness from ancient times are clothed in light.
The dead arise from the dust and sing because they have a Savior.

He brings salvation and grants us life.
He ascends to his Father on high.
He will return in glorious splendor and shed his light on those gazing upon him.

Our King comes in majestic glory,
Let us light our lamps and go forth to meet him.
Let us find our joy in him, for he has found joy in us.
He will indeed rejoice us with his marvelous light.

Let us glorify the majesty of the Son and give thanks to
the almighty Father, who,
in an outpouring of love, sent him to us, to fill us with
hope and salvation.

When he manifests himself, the saints awaiting him in
weariness and sorrow,
will go forth to meet him with lighted lamps.

The angels and guardians of heaven will rejoice in the
glory of the just and upright people of the earth;
together, crowned with victory, they will sing hymns and psalms.

Stand up then and be ready!
Give thanks to our King and Savior, who will come in great
glory to gladden us with his marvelous light in his kingdom.

Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit,
now and for ever. Amen.

Alleluia.

[HYMN]
Either the Hymn, “The Return of Christ” (page 169) or the
Hymn, “Christ the Light” (page 169) may be sung after the Nuhro.

THIRD PRAYER
Lord, have mercy on us and save us.
Lord,
the death of the righteous is precious in your eyes
and the memory of your saints is sweet to your heart.
May we celebrate the memory of our father, Saint Maron,
full of joy.
We shall offer your praise and exalt and bless your name,
now and for ever.
Amen.

MORNING PSALMS
Psalm 148
Alleluia.
Praise the Lord from the heavens,
praise him in the heights;

Praise him, all you his angels,
praise him, all you his hosts.

Praise him, sun and moon;
praise him, all you shining stars.

Praise him, you highest heavens,
and you waters above the heavens.

Let them praise the name of the Lord,
for he commanded and they were created;

He established them forever and ever;
he gave them a duty which shall not pass away.

Praise the Lord from the earth,
you sea monsters and all depths;

Fire and hail, snow and mist,
storm winds that fulfill his word;

You mountains and all you hills,
you fruit trees and all you cedars;

You wild beasts and all tame animals,
you creeping things and you winged fowl.

Let the kings of the earth and all peoples,
the princes s and all the judges of the earth,

Young men too, and maidens,
old men and boys,

Praise the name of the Lord,
for his name alone is exalted;

His majesty is above earth and heaven,
and he has lifted up the horn of his people.

Be this his praise from all his faithful ones,
from the children of Israel, the people close to him.

Alleluia.

Psalm 149:1-6
Alleluia.
Sing to the Lord a new song
of praise in the assembly of the faithful.

Let Israel be glad in their maker,
let the children of Zion rejoice in their king.

Let them praise his name in the festive dance,
let them sing praise to him with timbrel and harp.

For the Lord loves his people,
and he adorns the lowly with victory.

Let the faithful exult in glory;
let them sing joy upon their couches;

Let the high praises of God be in their throats.

Alleluia.

Psalm 150
Alleluia.
Praise the Lord in his sanctuary,
praise him in the firmament of his strength.

Praise him for his mighty deeds,
praise him for his sovereign majesty.

Praise him with the blast of the trumpet,
praise him with lyre and harp.

Praise him with timbrel and dance,
praise him with strings and pipe.

Praise him with sounding cymbals,
praise him with clanging cymbals.

Let everything that has breath
praise the Lord!

Alleluia.

Psalm 117
Praise the Lord, all you nations;
glorify him, all you peoples!

For steadfast is his mercy toward us,
and the truth of the Lord endures for ever.

Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit,
now and for ever. Amen.

Alleluia.

HOOSOYO
PROEMION
Praise, glory and honor to the One who rewards the just and
crowns the upright.
who made Maron a chosen vessel through which he poured light
and guidance on his people.
To the Good One is due glory and honor this morning,
and all the days of our lives,
now and for ever.
Amen.

SEDRO
As we contemplate the life of our father, Saint Maron,
we admire the divine providence which guided him.
It took him by the hand and led him to the kingdom during each stage of his life.
It guided him first of all to the mountain, Qoroch, where he
dwelled in solitude and renunciation of the world.
He sought the face of God, following the footsteps of the saints
so well that the reputation of his sanctity and the fragrance
of his virtues spread abroad.
From everywhere people came to ask his advice in their
difficulties, to be healed of their diseases and to be instructed.
Crowds demanded all kinds of things, but he did not turn anyone away.

The calls of those who wished to imitate his way of life and
dedication to God multiplied around his own.
O Maron, through your intercession may we celebrate your
glorious memory in joy.
May we have your spirit as we live out the gospel beatitudes,
and may we uphold the name of faith you have
bequeathed to us,
until we come to God, the dwelling of all the saints.
With you, we praise him, for ever.

Amen.

QOLO
Holy are you, O God, you gave Maron a firm faith and a divine love.

Holy are you, O Strong One, you gave strength to the
priest-hermit that he might serve you.

Holy are you, O Immortal One,
for you the grain of wheat died, yielding a hundredfold.

Blessed are you, who have commemorated your Lord through
fasting and prayer, the fruit which is a chosen people.
Blessed is the Church which today celebrates your memory.

ETRO
O God,
accept the incense and prayers which we offer you in memory of our father, the holy hermit Maron.
Through them grant your flock perseverance in the true faith
which we have inherited from him.
Give health to the sick, hope to those undergoing trials,
pardon to sinners, steadfastness to consecrated souls,
and rest to the dead.
We shall glorify the Trinity, One God,
for ever and ever.

Amen.

MAZMOORO
Today the Church rejoices and her children
exult in the memory of your holy one.

May it be proclaimed from the mountain tops: O Church, rejoice and exult.
May everyone praise the Lord who has chosen
this saint as a model for us.

O God, you accepted the offerings made by the righteous before us,
now accept, Lord, our prayer, and have mercy on us.

SCRIPTURE READING
A Reading from the Second Letter to Timothy
2 Timothy 1: 1-14
Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God for the promise of life in Christ Jesus, to Timothy, my dear child: grace, mercy, and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord.
I am grateful to God, whom I worship with a clear conscience as my ancestors did, as I remember you constantly in my prayers, night and day. I yearn to see you again, recalling your tears, so that I may be filled with joy as I recall your sincere faith that first lived in your grandmother Lois and in your mother Eunice and that I am confident lives also in you. For this reason, I remind you to stir into flame the gift of God that you have through the imposition of my hands. For God did not give us a spirit of cowardice but rather of power and love and self-control. So do not be ashamed of your testimony to our Lord, nor of me, a prisoner for his sake; but bear your share of hardship for the gospel with the strength that comes from God. He saved us and called us to a holy life, not according to our works but according to his own design and the grace bestowed on us in Christ Jesus before time began, but now made manifest through the appearance of our savior Christ Jesus, who destroyed death and brought life and immortality to light through the gospel, for which I was appointed preacher and apostle and teacher. On this account I am suffering these things; but I am not ashamed, for I know him in whom I have believed and am confident that he is able to guard what has been entrusted to me until that day.
Take as your norm the sound words that you heard from me, in the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus.
Guard this rich trust with the help of the holy Spirit that dwells within us.

HOOTOMO
GREAT DOXOLOGY
Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace and joy-filled hope to all.
We praise you, we adore you, we glorify you,
we give you thanks for your great glory,
Lord and Creator, King of heaven, God the Father almighty,
Lord God, only Son, Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit.
Lord God, Lamb of God, Son and Word of the Father,
you take away the sin of the world, have mercy on us;
you take away the sin of the world, hear us and receive our prayer.
You are seated in glory at the right hand of your Father,
forgive us and have mercy on us;
For you alone are holy,
you alone are the Lord, Jesus Christ,
with the Holy Spirit, in the glory of God the Father.
At all times, and all the days of our lives, we worship
you and praise your holy and blessed name,
which is and has been from age to age.
Blessed are you, Lord almighty, God of our fathers.
May your name be glorified, praised and exalted for ever.
To you be glory, praise and exaltation, God of all,
Father of truth, with the only Son and the living and Holy Spirit, now and for ever.

Amen.

now and forever.

Amen.
