Transfiguration

August 6
TRANSFIGURATION OF OUR LORD
Ramsho

INTRODUCTION
DOXOLOGY
Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit, as we begin and until we conclude.
May mercy and compassion be poured forth upon us
in this world and the next.
O Lord, our God, to you be glory forever. Amen.
OPENING PRAYER
Lord God,
on this evening of the feast of your transfiguration on the
mountain,
grant us to spend this day of salvation with purity of heart
and with praise on our lips.
May our actions be pure,
and may we live with you and for you in this world and the next.
We shall glorify the life giving Trinity,
now and forever. Amen.
GREETING
Peace be with the Church and her children.
PRAISE OF THE ANGELS
Glory to God in the highest,
peace on earth and good will to all.

Praise the Lord, all you nations,
glorify him, all you peoples!

For steadfast is his mercy toward us,
and the truth of the Lord endures forever.
Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit, now and forever,
and peace on earth and good will to all.

PSALMODY
FIRST PRAYER
Lord, have mercy on us and save us.
O Christ our God,
give us joy of heart, the consolation of the Spirit
and peace of conscience.
Confirm us in your love as the disciples who were with
you at your transfiguration on the mountain.
Deepen in us the desire to live with you, your elect and
your apostles,
where you are transfigured always.
We shall glorify you, forever. Amen.
PSALM OF THE DAY
Antiphon:
Be extolled, O Lord,
in your strength.

Psalm 21
O Lord, in your strength the king is glad;
in your victory how greatly he rejoiced!

You have granted him his heart’s desire;
you refused not the wish of his lips.

For you welcomed him with goodly blessings,
you placed on his head a crown of pure gold.

He asked life of you: you gave him
length of days forever and ever.

Great is his glory in your victory;
majesty and splendor you conferred upon him.

For you made him a blessing forever;
you gladdened him with the joy of your presence.

For the king trusts in the Lord,
and through the kindness of the Most High
he stands unshaken.

May your hand reach all your enemies,
may your right hand reach your foes!

Make them burn as though in a fiery furnace,
when you appear.

May the Lord consume them in his anger;
let fire devour them.

Destroy their fruit from the earth
and their posterity from among men.

Though they intend evil against you,
devising plots, they cannot succeed,

For you shall put them to flight;
you shall aim your shafts against them.

Be extolled, O Lord, in your strength!
We will sing, chant the praise of your might.

Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit,
now and forever. Amen.

Antiphon:
Be extolled, O Lord,
in your strength.

SECOND PRAYER
Lord, have mercy on us and save us.
O Christ,
on this day you wished to reveal your glory to Peter, James
and John.
You let them see your divine majesty surrounded by the law
and the prophets,
represented by Moses and Elias.
Grant us to meditate this evening on your majesty,
which is beyond grasp,
and your infinite love, which urged you to become incarnate
and live among us.
May we preserve in our faith in you
and glorify you in your kingdom, forever. Amen.
EVENING PSALMS
Psalm 141; 1-4
O Lord, to you I call; hasten to me;
harken to my voice when I call upon you.

Let my prayer come like incense before you;
the lifting up of my hands, like the evening sacrifice.

O Lord, set a watch before my mouth,
a guard at the door of my lips.

Let not my heart incline to the evil
of engaging in deeds of wickedness

With men who are evildoers;
and let me not partake of their dainties.

Psalm 142
With a loud voice I cry out to the Lord;
with a loud voice I beseech the Lord.

My complaint I pour out before him;
before him I lay bare my distress.

When my spirit is faint within me,
you know my path.

In the way along which I walk
they have hid a trap for me.

I look to the right to see,
but there is no one who pays me heed.

I have lost all means of escape;
there is no one who cares for my life.

I cry out to you, O Lord:
I say, “You are my refuge, my portion in the
land of the living.”

Attend to my cry,
for I am brought low indeed.

Rescue me from my persecutors,
for they are too strong for me.

Lead me forth from prison,
that I may give thanks to your name.

The just shall gather around me
when you have been good to me.

Psalm 119:105-112
A lamp to my feet is your word,
a light to my path.

I resolve and swear
to keep your just ordinances.

I am very much afflicted;
O Lord, give me life according to your word.

Accept, O Lord, the free homage of my mouth,
and teach me your decrees.

Though constantly I take my life in my hands,
yet I forget not your law.

The wicked have laid a snare for me,
but from your precepts I have not strayed.

Your decrees are my inheritance forever;
the joy of my heart they are.

I intend in my heart to fulfill you statutes
always to the letter.

Psalm 117
Praise the Lord, all you nations;
glorify him, all you peoples!

For steadfast is his mercy toward us,
and the truth of the Lord endures forever.
Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit, now and forever. Amen.
Alleluia.

HOOSOYO
PROEMION
Praise, glory and honor the Father, who has sent us his only
Son, the splendor of his divinity, and one in being with him;
to the Son, the eternal splendor of the Father, who humbled
himself to come among us in these last days,
and has revealed to us the love and majesty of the Father;
to the Holy Spirit, who has spoken through the prophets
and apostles,
the Spirit of truth, who makes us say, “Abba”—Father.
To the Good One is due glory and honor this evening,
and all the days of our lives,
now and forever. Amen.
SEDRO
O Christ our God,
nothing hidden escapes your divine glance.
You took on our human nature and became like us in all things, but sin,
without diminishing yourself or putting aside the perfection of your divinity.
Today you desire to give us a picture of your heavenly kingdom, and you appeared in glory before Peter, James and John,
to give them a favor of the happiness to which you invite us.
On this evening, O Lord, we ask you to shine your heavenly
light on our spirits and consciences
that we may be enlightened by you,
and may contemplate the grandeur of your mercy towards us.
As you granted the disciples, so now allow us to taste the sweetness of true happiness,
so that with them we may say:
“Master, it is good to be here with you.
How good it would be to build you a tent among us,
so that you could remain with us.”
How good it is, not only that you stay in our house,
but that we ourselves become your property and live in and
for you.
May this spiritual feast, on which the Church rejoices,
increase our joy and happiness.
May it confirm those baptized in the faith in your divinity
and in confidence in your mercy.
May our whole life be built on the hope of encountering you
and the expectation of the happiness prepared for the elect.

Place within us, O Lord, a true love for all,
so that without fear or duplicity we may truly witness to this love.
May we carry your name among people of every race
and pursue your mission at all times and in all places.
On this day, O Lord, remember our fathers, the successors of Peter, James and John,
so that they may make your flock feed on wisdom and justice
and show it the marvelous beauty of your divinity.
Accept our prayers for the whole world,
for all the children of the Church, living and dead.
Grant us to praise you one day with your saints in happiness
and to contemplate the revelation of your face, forever. Amen.
QOLO
Holy are you, O God, you revealed yourself to men on the
mountain.
Holy are you, O Strong One, Moses and Elias adored you. Before you the law and the prophets bowed down.
Holy are you, O Immortal One, you died and rose from the dead.
You gave us life and ascended to heaven to prepare a place for us.
Today the Father says of his Son: “This is my beloved Son.”
Today the Church cries out: “This is the son who came
down from heaven and saved us.”
ETRO
O Savior,
we adore you who offered yourself as a holocaust and
pleasing sacrifice.
We ask you on the memorial of your transfiguration on
the mountain,
to accept our prayers and pardon us and all sinners.
Remember the dead who rest in your hope,
and we shall glorify you,
now and forever. Amen.

READINGS
MAZMOORO
Glory to the hidden One who revealed himself at the top of the mountain and showed himself to his chosen ones.
Come, let us praise the Lord who revealed himself at the top
of the mountain; let us sing to God who showed himself
to his chosen ones.
Lord, the Church rejoices on your feast; make her also hear the voice your apostles heard: “This is my beloved Son, listen
to him.”
SYNAXARION
While Jesus and his disciples were in the region of Caesarea Philippi, near the borders of Lebanon, the Lord took Peter, James and John up a high mountain and was transfigured before them. His appearance was changed and he reflected the glory of his divinity. He was joined by Moses and Elias, who represented the Law and the Prophets of the Old Testament of which Christ was the fulfillment. We do not know the precise date or place of the transfiguration, and the present date of August 6th marks the day upon which the Church of the Transfiguration on Mount Tabor was dedicated. In fact, an ancient title for this feast was “the feast of Mount Tabor”. In 1456, Pope Callixtus III extended the Feast of the Transfiguration to the entire Church. Glory and honor be to our Lord and God, forever. Amen.
SCRIPTURE READINGS
A Reading from the Book of Exodus
Exodus 34: 29-35
As Moses came down from Mount Sinai with the two tablets of the commandments in his hands, he did not know that the skin of his face had become radiant while he conversed with the LORD.
When Aaron, then, and the other Israelites saw Moses and noticed how radiant the skin of his face had become, they were afraid to come near him. Only after Moses called to them did Aaron and all the rulers of the community come back to him. Moses then spoke to them. Later on, all the Israelites came up to him, and he enjoined on them all that the LORD had told him on Mount Sinai. When he finished speaking with them, he put a veil over his face. Whenever Moses entered the presence of the LORD to converse with him, he removed the veil until he came out again. On coming out, he would tell the Israelites all that had been commanded. Then the Israelites would see that the skin of Moses’ face was radiant; so

he would again put the veil over his face until he went in to converse with the LORD.
A Reading from the Second Letter of Peter
2 Peter 1: 10-19
Therefore, brothers, be all the more eager to make your call and election firm, for, in doing so, you will never stumble. For, in this way, entry into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and savior Jesus Christ will be richly provided for you. Therefore, I will always remind you of these things, even though you already know them and are established in the truth you have. I think it right, as long as I am in this “tent,” to stir you up by a reminder, since I know that I will soon have to put it aside, as indeed our Lord Jesus Christ has shown me. I shall also make every effort to enable you always to remember these things after my departure. We did not follow cleverly devised myths when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we had been eyewitnesses of his majesty. For he received honor and glory from God the Father when that unique declaration came to him from the majestic glory, “This is my Son, my beloved, with whom I am well pleased.” We ourselves heard this voice come from heaven while we were with him on the holy mountain. Moreover, we possess the prophetic message that is altogether reliable. You will do well to be attentive to it, as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts.
SUPPLICATION
O Lord of night and Master of all time, hear our supplication and have mercy on us.
You reconciled heaven and earth, grant peace to your Church
and keep her children in the light of the cross.
Taking Peter, James and John with him, our Lord climbed a high mountain and revealed his glory to them; his clothing became
as white as snow and they tasted the joy of heaven.
My children, come and contemplate the Lord on the top of the
mountain and listen to the Father who tells you: “This is
my beloved Son, listen to him!”
O Prophets, come and contemplate Elias who represents you.
Through Christ prophecy is completed and comes to an end.
O Israel, look upon Moses who holds the place of the law and
say: “Christ has come and we have seen his glory!”

O Church, rejoice throughout the earth, announce that the Lord has transfigured himself, “and we have seen his glory!” May
the transfiguration of the Lord on the top of the mountain
be a source of mercy and blessing for all.
Glory to the Father, who told us: “This is my beloved Son,”
adoration to the Son, who wished to become incarnate and
reveal his glory; thanksgiving to the Holy Spirit, through
whom we have life. To the one Trinity, one Power, be glory,
forever.
The Virgin Mary, your Mother and the apostles, prophets and
martyrs intercede for us; O God, through their prayers
strengthen the weak, comfort the sick, grant pardon to our
deceased and forgive the faults of us poor sinners.
Exalt, O Lord, the memory of your Mother and your saints;
through their prayers grant pardon to us and our deceased.
Through the prayers of your Mother, the prophets, apostles
and martyrs, watch over the living, and in your mercy forgive those who have died.
HOOTOMO
Let us confess, adore, and praise the holy and glorious Trinity: Father, Son + and Holy Spirit. Amen.
TRISAGION
Lord, have mercy.
Lord, have mercy.
Lord, have mercy
Holy are you, O God;
Holy are you, O Strong One;
Holy are you, O Immortal One;
have mercy on us.
Lord, have mercy on us.
Lord, forgive us and have mercy on us.
Lord, hear us and have mercy on us.
Lord, accept our worship and our prayers.
Lord, come to our assistance
and have mercy on us.

LORD’S PRAYER
Our Father, who are in heaven;
hallowed be your name;
your kingdom come;
your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread;
and forgive us our trespasses
as we forgive those who trespass against us;
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil,
For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours,
now and forever. Amen.
O Lord,
the night and the day are yours;
you uphold the light and the sun.
Through your power you direct
the sequence of the seasons.
O Lord,
you have brought the day to its close and called forth the night; Be for us that great Day that never ends.
In the evening let your light shine in our hearts,
and in the darkness of the night
enlighten us with the knowledge of your truth.
And so, through all the days of our lives,
we shall praise you, Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
To you be glory and may your mercy rest upon us,
now and forever. Amen.
EXAMINATION OF CONSCIENCE
Let us thank God for all the graces he has bestowed on us
this day which has passed in calm and peace.
Let us recall our failings against the commandments of
God and the Church in thought, word, deed and omission
We ask for God’s pardon as we pray:
“Forgive us, Jesus!”
Lord, have mercy.
Lord, have mercy.
Lord, have mercy.
Glory be to you, O Lord.
Glory be to you, O Lord.
Glory be to you, O Lord.

God,
Father in heaven,
by your living and holy name,
keep us from evil and lead us not into temptation;
for we call upon you, O Lord, our God, our constant hope,
glory to you forever.
O Lord, our Lord,
may our humble worship be pleasing to you;
may our prayers come before you and our actions give
you honor.
Let you mercy, kindness, help, graces and divine love
be poured abundantly upon us poor sinners,
both in heaven and on the earth
which you have created in your goodness.
O Lord, our God, to you be glory forever. Amen.
DISMISSAL
Peace be with you.
And also with you.
O God,
through the prayers of your Mother and the saints who have
believed in you;
Through the prayers of the prophets, apostles, martyrs and confessors; through the prayers of the just, the priests, the holy fathers, the pastors and teachers of the truth faith;
and through the prayers of N., Pope of Rome, N., our Patriarch, and N., our Bishop,
forgive your people and have mercy on your flock.
May God bless, forgive, sanctify, purify, and keep each of
the faithful united with us in this spiritual office.
May mercy and compassion be upon us and all the faithful
who dwell here.
May peaceful rest be granted to those who have died in the faith.
May the faithful who live here experience the protection
of Christ’s victorious cross.
May we and all his servants, who adore him with bowed heads,
receive the mercy of the holy and glorious Trinity
Father, Son, + Holy Spirit,
to whom be glory now and forever. Amen.

May God forgive your sins,
pardon your failings,
and deliver you from the power of the enemy.
May he grant you the remission of your offenses.
Go in peace, and pray to Christ for me.
