Thursday Reading

Titus 2:1-8
As for yourself, you must say what is consistent with sound doctrine, namely, that older men should be temperate, dignified, self-controlled, sound in faith, love, and endurance. Similarly, older women should be reverent in their behavior, not slanderers, not addicted to drink, teaching what is good, so that they may train younger women to love their husbands and children, to be self-controlled, chaste, good homemakers, under the control of their husbands, so that the word of God may not be discredited. Urge the younger men, similarly, to control themselves, showing yourself as a model of good deeds in every respect, with integrity in your teaching, dignity, and sound speech that cannot be criticized, so that the opponent will be put to shame without anything bad to say about us. Praise be to God always.
Luke 18:31-34
Then he took the Twelve aside and said to them, “Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem and everything written by the prophets about the Son of Man will be fulfilled. He will be handed over to the Gentiles and he will be mocked and insulted and spat upon; and after they have scourged him they will kill him, but on the third day he will rise.” But they understood nothing of this; the word remained hidden from them and they failed to comprehend what he said. This is the Truth. Peace be with you.

Do we understand what Jesus did? That He died and rose again to unite his divinity to our mortality and his life with our death? That he did this in fulfillment of prophecy. That He did this out of love. We need to know the faith, to learn the faith, to seek to understand the faith, so that we do not fail to see what Jesus did for us and what Jesus is doing for us now in our lives.
