INTRODUCTION

DOXOLOGY
Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit,
as we begin and until we conclude.
May mercy and compassion be poured forth upon us
in this world and the next.
O Lord, our God, to you be glory for ever.
Amen.
OPENING PRAYER
Long-suffering Lord,
rich in grace and truth,
grant us this night the gifts of meekness, calm, mercy,
compassion, and spiritual understanding.
Lead us in joy to that dawn that does not pass away.
With grateful hearts,
we shall remain in your presence,
and offer humble praise to you, your Father and
your Holy Spirit,
now and for ever.
Amen.
GREETING
Peace be with the Church and her children.
PRAISE OF THE ANGELS
Glory to God in the highest,
and peace on earth and good will to all.
Praise the Lord all you nations,
glorify him all you peoples,
For steadfast is his mercy toward us,
and the truth of the Lord endures for ever.

Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit,
now and for ever,
and peace on earth and good will to all.
PSALMODY
FIRST PRAYER
Lord, have mercy on us and save us.
Lord,
pour your love into our hearts,
and your goodness into our minds.
Preserve us from all evil,
so that your calm and peace may reign among us.
We shall give you glory,
now and for ever,
Amen.
PSALM OF THE DAY
Antiphon:
O, my God,
you brighten the darkness about me.

Psalm 18: 17-32
He reached out from on high and grasped me;
he drew me out of the deep waters.

He rescued me from my mighty enemy
and from my foes, who were too powerful for me.

They attacked me in the day of my calamity,
but the Lord came to my support.

He set me free in the open,
and rescued me, because he loves me.

The Lord rewarded me according to my justice;
according to the cleanness of
hands he requited me;

For I kept the ways of the Lord
and was not disloyal to my God;

For his ordinances were all present to me,
and his statutes I put not from me,

But I was wholehearted toward him,
and I was on my guard against guilt.

And the Lord requited me according to my justice,
according to the cleanness of my hands in his sight.

Toward the faithful you are faithful,
toward the wholehearted you are wholehearted,

Toward the sincere you are sincere,
but toward the crooked you are astute;

For lowly people you save
but haughty eyes you bring low;

You indeed, O Lord, give light to my lamp;
O my God, you brighten the darkness about me;

For with your aid I run against an armed band,
and by the help of my God I leap over a wall.

God’s way is unerring,
the promise of the Lord is fire-tried;
he is a shield to all who take refuge in him

For who is God except the Lord?
Who is a rock, save our God?

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit,
now and for ever. Amen.

Antiphon:
O, my God,
you brighten the darkness about me.

SECOND PRAYER
Lord, have mercy on us and save us.
O Son,
condescending to become one of us,
you humbled yourself and came down to earth.
Stretch forth your merciful right hand upon us,
that it may protect us from the enemy,
now and for ever.
Amen.
EVENING PSALMS
Psalm 141:1-4
O Lord, to you I call; hasten to me;
harken to my voice when I call upon you.
Let my prayer come like incense before you;
the lifting up of my hands, like the evening sacrifice.

O Lord, set a watch before my mouth,
a guard at the door of my lips.
Let not my heart incline to the evil
of engaging in deeds of wickedness
With men who are evildoers;
and let me not partake of their dainties.
Psalm 142
With a loud voice I cry out to the Lord;
with a loud voice I beseech the Lord.
My complaint I pour out before him;
before him I lay bare my distress.
When my spirit is faint within me,
you know my path.
In the way along which I walk
they have hid a trap for me.
I look to the right to see,
but there is no one who pays me heed.
I have lost all means of escape;
there is no one who cares for my life.
I cry out to you, O Lord:
I say, “You are my refuge, my portion in the land
of the living.”
Attend to my cry,
for I am brought low indeed.
Rescue me from my persecutors,
for they are too strong for me.
Lead me forth from prison,
that I may give thanks to your name.
The just shall gather around me
when you have been good to me.

Psalm 119:105-112
A lamp to my feet is your word,
a light to my path.
I resolve and swear
to keep your just ordinances.
I am very much afflicted;
O Lord, give me life according to your word.
Accept, O Lord, the free homage of my mouth,
and teach me your decrees.
Though constantly I take my life in my hands,
yet I forget not your law.
The wicked have laid a snare for me,
but from your precepts I have not strayed.
Your decrees are my inheritance forever;
the joy of my heart they are.
I intend in my heart to fulfill you statutes
always to the letter.
Psalm 117
Praise the Lord, all you nations;
glorify him, all you peoples!
For steadfast is his mercy toward us,
and the truth of the Lord endures for ever.
Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit,
now and for ever. Amen.
Alleluia.

HOOSOYO
PROEMION
Praise, glory and honor to the One who hears our prayers and
forgives our transgressions
He is the ocean of mercy and source of compassion,
the God of goodness to whom is due glory and honor this night, and all the days of our lives,
now and for ever.
Amen.
SEDRO
Creator of the world and ruler of all beings,
you uphold everything by your power and guide all things
in your wisdom.
You have made evening and morning,
night and day.
Lord God,
during this evening grant our souls freedom from all evil thoughts, and our bodies rest from all harmful fatigue.
Accept our vigil and receive our worship,
that your calm may reign over us, and your peace govern
our hearts.
Thus, our minds will be freed from the darkness of sin.
Be for us the Sun of justice;
illumine us with your spiritual light, Lord,
that we may not sleep amid confusion and shame,
but be awakened to labor according to your commandments.
Do not turn your ever-watchful eye from us, but guard us in
your mercy.
Lord, do not let the wolf enter into your sheepfold to devour
the sheep marked with your seal,
but protect us with your merciful right hand,
and save us from the enemy.
Keep the snares of the devil far from us,
and drive away all evil spirits.
Let no obscure thoughts fill us,
but rather grant us, asleep or awake, to persevere in what
is pleasing to you,
and to store up deeds of goodness and light for the great
and awesome Day.
Then we shall be counted among those who inherit the
heavenly

and eternal joys,
in that place of light where neither darkness nor trouble
can penetrate,
and we shall glorify you, your Father and the Holy Spirit,
now and for ever.
Amen.
QOLO
Lord,
accept the incense (our prayers) of your servants, as you accepted the incense of Moses,
and receive our petitions, as you received the prayer of Eleazar and Phinehas.
As the incense of Aaron and Levite was pleasing to you,
so may this incense (our prayer), which your worshipers
have offered to you, be acceptable in your sight.
ETRO
Lord,
receive this incense (our prayer), in which we have offered to you, and render it pleasing to your Father.
Delight us with the fragrance of your glorious perfumes.
Thus we shall rejoice in you and give glory to you, your father and your living Spirit,
now and for ever.
Amen.
READINGS
MAZMOORO
Save your people and bless your inheritance; shepherd and guide them always.
Some trust in chariots and others in horses, but we trust in
the name of our Lord our God for ever.
I heard the voice of the Prophet Jeremiah say: “Happy the man
who from his earliest youth has shouldered the yoke of
the Lord.
SCRIPTURE READINGS
A Reading from the Prophet Ezekiel
Ezekiel 34: 11-31
For thus says the Lord GOD: I myself will look after and tend my sheep. As a shepherd tends his flock when he finds himself among his scattered sheep, so will I tend my sheep. I will rescue them from every place where they were scattered when it was cloudy and dark.

I will lead them out from among the peoples and gather them from the foreign lands; I will bring them back to their own country and pasture them upon the mountains of Israel in the land’s ravines and all its inhabited places. In good pastures will I pasture them, and on the mountain heights of Israel shall be their grazing ground. There they shall lie down on good grazing ground, and in rich pastures shall they be pastured on the mountains of Israel. I myself will pasture my sheep; I myself will give them rest, says the Lord GOD. The lost I will seek out, the strayed I will bring back, the injured I will bind up, the sick I will heal [but the sleek and the strong I will destroy], shepherding them rightly. As for you, my sheep, says the Lord GOD, I will judge between one sheep and another, between rams and goats. Was it not enough for you to graze on the best pasture, that you had to trample the rest of your pastures with your feet? Was it not enough for you to drink the clearest water, that you had to foul the remainder with your feet? Thus my sheep had to graze on what your feet had trampled and drink what your feet had fouled.
Therefore thus says the Lord GOD: Now will I judge between the fat and the lean sheep.
Because you push with side and shoulder, and butt all the weak sheep with your horns until you have driven them out, I will save my sheep so that they may no longer be despoiled, and I will judge between one sheep and another. I will appoint one shepherd over them to pasture them, my servant David; he shall pasture them and be their shepherd. I, the LORD, will be their God, and my servant David shall be prince among them. I, the LORD, have spoken. I will make a covenant of peace with them, and rid the country of ravenous beasts, that they may dwell securely in the desert and sleep in the forests. I will place them about my hill, sending rain in due season, rains that shall be a blessing to them. The trees of the field shall bear their fruits, and the land its crops, and they shall dwell securely on their own soil. Thus they shall know that I am the LORD when I break the bonds of their yoke and free them from the power of those who enslaved them. They shall no longer be despoiled by the nations or devoured by beasts of the earth, but shall dwell secure, with no one to frighten them. I will prepare for them peaceful fields for planting; they shall no longer be carried off by famine in the land, or bear the reproaches of the nations. Thus they shall know that I, the LORD, am their God, and they are my people, the house of Israel, says the Lord GOD. You, my sheep, you are the sheep of my pasture, and I am your God, says the Lord GOD.
