The Lord has sworn, and he will not repent; “You are a
priest for ever, according to the order of Melchizedek.”

Psalm 110: 1-5
The Lord said my Lord: “Sit at my right hand
till I make your enemies your foot stool.”

The scepter of your power the Lord
will stretch forth from Zion:

“Rule in the midst of your enemies.
Yours is princely power in the day of
your birth, in holy splendor;

before the daystar, like the dew,
I have begotten you.”

The Lord has sworn, and he will not repent:
“You are a priest forever, according to the order
of Melchizedek.”

The Lord is at your right hand;
he will crush kings on the day of his wrath.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit,
now and for ever. Amen.

Antiphon:
The Lord has sworn, and he will not repent; “You are a
priest for ever, according to the order of Melchizedek.”

who became man to save us who were unable to save ourselves,.

We shall then enter into your kingdom and give thanks to you,
your Father, and your Holy Spirit,
now and for ever. Amen.
NUHRO (HYMN OF LIGHT)
The Light of the just and joy of the upright in Christ Jesus,
our Lord.
Begotten of the Father, he manifested Himself to us.
He came to rescue us from darkness and to fill us with the
radiance of his light.
Day is dawning upon us; the power of darkness is fading away.
From the true Light there arises from us the light which illumines our darkened eyes.
His glory shines upon the world and enlightens the very depths of the abyss.
Death is annihilated, night has vanished, and the gates of Sheol are broken.
Creatures lying in darkness from ancient times are clothed in
light.
The dead arise from the dust and sing because they have a Savior.
He brings salvation and grants us life.
He ascends to his Father on high.
He will return in glorious splendor and shed his light on those gazing upon him.

Our King comes in majestic glory,
Let us light our lamps and go forth to meet him.
Let us find our joy in him, for he has found joy in us.
He will indeed rejoice us with his marvelous light.
Let us glorify the majesty of the Son and give thanks to
the almighty Father, who,
in an outpouring of love, sent him to us, to fill us with
hope and salvation.
When he manifests himself, the saints awaiting him in
weariness and sorrow,
will go forth to meet him with lighted lamps.
The angels and guardians of heaven will rejoice in the
glory of the just and upright people of the earth;
together, crowned with victory, they will sing hymns and psalms.
Stand up then and be ready!
Give thanks to our King and Savior, who will come in great
glory to gladden us with his marvelous light in his kingdom.
Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit,
now and for ever. Amen. Alleluia.
[HYMN]
Either the Hymn, “The Return of Christ” (page 169) or the
Hymn, “Christ the Light” (page 169) may be sung after the
Nuhro.
THIRD PRAYER
Lord, have mercy on us and save us.
We thank you, only Son of the Father,
for you were begotten by him before all time.
For our salvation, your love for us brought you to be born of
Mary in the flesh and in time.
We give all glory and praise to you, your Father
and your Holy Spirit,
now and for ever. Amen.

MORNING PSALMS
Psalm 148
Alleluia.
Praise the Lord from the heavens,
praise him in the heights;
Praise him, all you his angels,
praise him, all you his hosts.
Praise him, sun and moon;
praise him, all you shining stars.
Praise him, you highest heavens,
and you waters above the heavens.
Let them praise the name of the Lord,
for he commanded and they were created;
He established them forever and ever;
he gave them a duty which shall not pass away.
Praise the Lord from the earth,
you sea monsters and all depths;
Fire and hail, snow and mist,
storm winds that fulfill his word;
You mountains and all you hills,
you fruit trees and all you cedars;
You wild beasts and all tame animals,
you creeping things and you winged fowl.
Let the kings of the earth and all peoples,
the princes and all the judges of the earth,
Young men too, and maidens,
old men and boys,
Praise the name of the Lord,
for his name alone is exalted;
His majesty is above earth and heaven,
and he has lifted up the horn of his people.

Be this his praise from all his faithful ones,
from the children of Israel, the people close to him.
Alleluia.

Psalm 149:1-6
Alleluia.
Sing to the Lord a new song
of praise in the assembly of the faithful.
Let Israel be glad in their maker,
let the children of Zion rejoice in their king.
Let them praise his name in the festive dance,
let them sing praise to him with timbrel and harp.
For the Lord loves his people,
and he adorns the lowly with victory.
Let the faithful exult in glory;
let them sing joy upon their couches;
Let the high praises of God be in their throats.
Alleluia.
Psalm 150
Alleluia.
Praise the Lord in his sanctuary,
praise him in the firmament of his strength.
Praise him for his mighty deeds,
praise him for his sovereign majesty.
Praise him with the blast of the trumpet,
praise him with lyre and harp.
Praise him with timbrel and dance,
praise him with strings and pipe.
Praise him with sounding cymbals,
praise him with clanging cymbals.

Let everything that has breath
praise the Lord!
Alleluia.
Psalm 117
Praise the Lord, all you nations;
glorify him, all you peoples!
For steadfast is his mercy toward us,
and the truth of the Lord endures for ever.
Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit,
now and for ever. Amen.
Alleluia.

The “Canticle of the Three Children” (page 168) may
follow the Morning Psalms.
HOOSOYO
PROEMION
Praise, glory and honor to the ancient One,
begotten of the Father before all ages and born of the
Virgin Mary in the fullness of time.
Light and image of the Father, sharing the same nature
as the Father,
he fulfilled by his coming the words of the prophets.
To the Good One is due glory and honor this morning,
and all the days of our lives,
now and for ever. Amen.

SEDRO
Glory to you,
Word of the Father and Lord of the angels,
only Son of the Father who became the only Son of the Virgin.
To save the children of Adam you became a man.
You are the holy One whom Gabriel announced would bring
salvation and peace.
It is to you that the angels at Bethlehem
will chant praise and glory, singing:
“Glory to God in the highest, and on earth, peace and
hope to men.”
Those who appeared to be foreigners and strangers today become heirs and children in the house of God.
The land prepared itself, but now it is us who celebrate your
birth and offer you gifts.
The prophets desired to see you and announced your birth,
because the prophecies are realized by your birth and our
salvation is accomplished.
The apostles spread throughout the world, proclaiming the
good news,
and the martyrs offered their lives for you.
Lord,
grant that through penance and purity we too may prepare
ourselves to celebrate your birth.
May the bishops and priests tend their flocks well,
and the deacons serve the altars in purity.
In your coming, fill the hearts of the virgins with joy and
may the souls of all who come to you rejoice.
Sanctify us that we may meet you dressed in our wedding
garments,
and may we, the living, and our dead be at your right hand.
We give you glory, now and for ever. Amen.
QOLO
Holy are you, O God, you are hidden by the angels and transcend the holy ones.
Holy are you, O Strong One, by your power you placed yourself
in the Virgin Mary.
Holy are you, O Immortal One, you took the body of mortals to
give them life.

You created the world and guided the universe, were born an
infant in tho cave, wrapped in swaddling clothes and
nursed with milk.
You accepted the gifts of the shepherds and the wise men and
gave creatures your gifts.
Blessed be your birth and to your name be glory,
now and for ever. Amen.
ETRO
Lord Jesus Christ,
you always accepted the praise of angels and
the hymns of the daughters of David,
receive, with the fragrance of this incense, the prayer of
your servants who now adore you.
Forgive our sins, grant rest to our dead,
keep heresy and division away from us
and implant your peace in our hearts.
Rejoicing, may we give you glory and thanksgiving,
now and for ever. Amen.
READINGS
MAZMOORO
From Bethlehem the Light has appeared to us, and through the
Son of Mary, the darkness of error has vanished.
An oracle of the Lord to my Lord: “Sit at my right hand and I
shall make your enemies a footstool.”
Lord, your servants praise you; in your mercy accept our prayer and have mercy on us.

A Reading from the Prophet Isaiah
Isaiah 11: 1-10
But a shoot shall sprout from the stump of Jesse, and from his roots a bud shall blossom. The spirit of the LORD shall rest upon him: a spirit of wisdom and of understanding, A spirit of counsel and of strength, a spirit of knowledge and of fear of the LORD, and his delight shall be the fear of the LORD. Not by appearance shall he judge, nor by hearsay shall he decide, But he shall judge the poor with justice, and decide aright for the land’s afflicted. He shall strike the ruthless with the rod of his mouth, and with the breath of his lips he shall slay the wicked.
Justice shall be the band around his waist, and faithfulness a belt upon his hips. Then the wolf shall be a guest of the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the kid; The calf and the young lion shall browse together, with a little child to guide them. The cow and the bear shall be neighbors, together their young shall rest; the lion shall eat hay like the ox. The baby shall play by the cobra’s den, and the child lay his hand on the adder’s lair. There shall be no harm or ruin on all my holy mountain; for the earth shall be filled with knowledge of the LORD, as water covers the sea. On that day, The root of Jesse, set up as a signal for the nations, The Gentiles shall seek out, for his dwelling shall be glorious.

A Reading from the First Letter of John
1 John 4: 9-21
In this way the love of God was revealed to us: God sent his only Son into the world so that we might have life through him. In this is love: not that we have loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as expiation for our sins. Beloved, if God so loved us, we also must love one another. No one has ever seen God. Yet, if we love one another, God remains in us, and his love is brought to perfection in us. This is how we know that we remain in him and he in us, that he has given us of his Spirit. Moreover, we have seen and testify that the Father sent his Son as savior of the world. Whoever acknowledges that Jesus is the Son of God, God remains in him and he in God. We have come to know and to believe in the love God has for us. God is love, and whoever remains in love remains in God and God in him. In this is love brought to perfection among us, that we have confidence on the day of judgment because as he is, so are we in this world. There is no fear in love, but perfect love drives out fear because fear has to do with punishment, and so one who fears is not yet perfect in love. We love because he first loved us.
If anyone says, “I love God,” but hates his brother, he is a liar; for whoever does not love a brother whom he has seen cannot love God whom he has not seen. This is the commandment we have from him: whoever loves God must also love his brother.
